Sydneysider Cocktail - Henri's Barrel Aged Gin
The Manhattan Cocktail has been banging around since 1874 (as research has me believe). For a long time, we used to spruik with our knowledge that the cocktail was invented at the Manhattan Club by the mum of Winston Churchill. It's with our deepest condolences we let you know this is a lie. She was giving birth in England during this exact timing, so honestly, it's a great alibi.
So let's fast forward 152 or so years to now. You've picked up our Merlot Cask of our Henri's Barrel Aged Gin and you're probably wondering: what now?
Well, because this is a rather bold, warming gin akin to a whiskey with notes of cherry and dark chocolate, it rather suits a Manhattan-style cocktail. But we've put our own spin on it.
Introducing the Sydneysider (straight up calling it Sydney instead of Manhattan would be terrible for our SEO capabilities for people to find this recipe), so Sydneysider it is.
The Ingredients:
60ml Henri's Barrel Aged Gin: Merlot Cask
30ml Sweet Red Vermouth (we use Unico Yuzu or Regal Rogue)
2 dashes of Angostura bitters
Maraschino cherry to garnish
The Recipe:
- Add all ingredients to a mixing glass filled with ice.
- Stir for 20–30 seconds until well chilled.
- Strain into a chilled coupe or Nick & Nora glass.
- Garnish with a maraschino cherry.
You've done it now, haven't you? Get to sipping, Sydney style.
